Parrots

In South Texas they have quite a population of parrots that have migrated up from Mexico and Central America
I was able to get a few nice shots of them on a previous visit. Then I got to thinking...are they cavity nesters? Why yes they are!
While down at the RGV Birding Show last fall I aske if any one had beed successful in getting them to nest in nest boxes. It seems no one had really given it the time and effort to see.
So after discussing the project with several folks including Arroyo Colorado Audubon,

I got into the shop and started building nest boxes.
Feb 2012 six nest boxes were sent south to hopefully be a new safe home for the parrots. You can follow our progress at the Parrot Project Blog.

Lets hope we have picture of little green heads poking out of the entrance holes soon!
